Mr. Edwin “David “Bowditch, 68, of Valdese, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at his residence.
David was born on July 13, 1955, in McDowell County to the late Edwin Bowditch and Elizabeth McFarland Bowditch, and was raised in Bakersville until the age of 13, when they moved to Valdese. He was a member of Vians Valley Presbyterian Church in Bakersville and was a longtime brick and block mason for 32 years. David will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, he always wanted them with him. He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing and traveling around the United States and Canada with Debbie. There was always a new adventure waiting with a newly made-up song. David was never afraid to tell you what he thought, how he wanted things done, and he would help anybody he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and prayers for the family are appreciated.
David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Deborah Pendergrass Bowditch of the home, his children, Nicole Huffman (Michael) of Connelly Springs, and David Bowditch of Valdese. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Cody Huffman (Kaitlyn), and Shelby Huffman, both of Connelly Springs, a great-grandson, William Michael Huffman, two sisters, Martha Bowditch of Philadelphia, PA, and Rachel Bowditch Von Harten of Morganton, three brother in-laws, Jerry Pendergrass (Wanda) of Drexel, Danny Pendergrass (Rhonda) of Valdese and Mike Pendergrass (Tammy) of Connelly Springs and multiple extended family members whom he had a deep family bond with.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Vians Valley Presbyterian Church in Bakersville, with Rev. Josh Cooke officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory of Valdese is serving the Bowditch family.
I’ve had so many laughs today over the crazy songs we would make up and drive Debbie crazy with. I’m sorry for the loss you all are feeling and love the whole family so very much.
Debbie, Jane Ann and I are deeply saddened and shocked by David’s unexpected passing. I will always remember the great fun (and trouble) the cousins got into at the Bowditch family reunions. I will always remember all of us going to the Fleetwood Mac / Eagles concert during 1976 U.S. Bicentennial in Greensboro. How did we all fit in that one hotel room ?!? Ha. ha. David will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him. You and all the family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Debbie- Please know you and your family are in my prayers. I am truly sorry for your loss. God bless.

Nicole, we are praying for your family now and in the days to come.
Debbie, I am a close friend of Rachel and have always loved hearing stories about her family and the fond memories and wonderful things she expressed about her brother, David and his family. Having a close family is such a blessing. John 5:28,29 speaks of the resurrection hope that is a promise from God. I hope you and your family will find comfort in this promise at this time.
I am so so sorry for your loss.
