Mr. Douglas Herman Saunders, 38, of Morganton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 8, 2024 at UNC-BR Morganton.
Doug was born on February 11, 1986 in Forsyth County to Stella Saunders and was previously employed in the restaurant industry.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Douglas and Carol Saunders.
Surviving is his mother and stepfather, Stella and David Reed of Morganton, a brother, Payton Hudson of Hickory, sister, Bethany Reed of Morganton and a stepbrother, John David Reed of Morganton. Also surviving are three aunts, Shannon Saunders, Dawn Saunders and Toleta Armstrong, an uncle, Neal Mauney, step grandmother, Ruth Reed and numerous cousins.
A receiving of friends and family will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Heritage Funeral Service from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Dear Family, I was Doug’s assistant in kindergarten 35 years ago. He had the biggest smile, blondest hair and loved to laugh. I’m very sorry for your loss. He was truly a loved child. Again, I’m so very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had not heard until I saw it on Facebook. I lost 3 younger siblings so I know what you must be going through. I remember so well the sorry in my mother and dad. DOUG SAUNDERS WAS A FRIEND OF MY SONS THEY HUNG OUT ALOT IN THEIR TEENS IN DREXEL NC, I CAME TO KNOW DOUG LATER IN 2019 HE WAS SUCH A KIND PERSON WHO WOULD HELP ANYONE WITH ANYTHING THAT NEEDED HIM AND HE WAS JUST A JOY TO BE AROUND!
