Donald Clarence Carswell, 86, of Morganton passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Amorem Hospice of Burke following a period of declining health.

Donald was born May 11, 1938 in Burke County to the late Jethro C. Carswell and Blanche Clark Carswell. He was a member of Linville United Methodist Church; and worked at Drexel Furniture in the shipping department, Oak Hill School and the Gate Service Station for many years. Donald enjoyed working with his hands and loved being outdoors staying active with different activities; from being in his flower garden, fishing, or hunting. In his younger years, he played football in high school and was a golden gloves champion in boxing.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Carswell, Millard Carswell, Leonard Carswell, and Ronald Carswell; and sister, Patsy McEwen.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Leigh “Sandy” Carswell, and Crystal Michelle “Crissy” Barrier and husband Jason; and grandchildren, Hailey Barrier Lehmans and husband Austin, Emma Quinn Barrier, Grey Blythe Barrier, and Raleigh Jason Barrier.  Also surviving are his sisters, Doris Beach and Hazel Dale and husband Jim; brother, Gary Carswell, and a special girlfriend, Shirley Plemmons; also numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date by the family.
