Mr. Charles Jefferson “C.J.” Hurst, 76, of Valdese, passed away on Saturday September 23, 2023, at Mission Memorial Hospital, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Hurst was born October 2, 1946, in Burke County, a son of the late Charles Jefferson Hurst, SR. and Dexter Lynch Hurst. C.J. had worked as an ambulance attendant with Kirksey Funeral Home, employee of Waldensian Bakery and was retired as a security guard from Baker Furniture Co. C.J. served his country well, as a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband, father and special granddad.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ella Lee Hurst, Bennie Hurst and a grandson, Josh Deal.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rita Faye Greene Hurst of the home, a son, John Jefferson “J.J.” Hurst of Valdese and a daughter, Laura Deal of Valdese. Also surviving are his grandchildren, James Deal (Hailey), Jenna Deal and great-grandchildren Josie Deal and Matthew Deal and special cousin, Debbie Thompson of Valdese.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 5:00 P.M. Thursday September 28, 2023 ,at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese and a Service of Remembrance with Military Honors will follow in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. Pastor Mark Smith will be officiating.
