Charles Hubert Johnson, 76, of Valdese, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Amorem – Valdese following a period of declining health.
Charles was born January 17, 1948 in Burke County to the late Elvin Johnson and Vernell Horne Johnson. He served honorably in the United States Navy and was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Charles loved the Dallas Cowboys, his dogs, and he had a way of making people laugh by being a jokester.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Sarah Johnson, and James Johnson.
Charles is survived by his sons, Shaft Johnson and wife Kim, and Shannon Johnsonand girlfriend Latemia O’Neil; and grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Savanna Johnson, Kejhion Johnson, and Iyanna Johnson. Also surviving are his siblings, Odessa Peterson, Clara Kinlow, and Belinda Williams; great grandson, Princeton Johnson; nieces, Sonia Carethers, Veronica Williams, Kennette Penn, and Monica Williams; and nephews, Bernard Bradford, Derrick Bradford, and Tim Johnson.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Wesley Hendrick officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church.
Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
