Carolyn Ramsey Griffin, 94 of Rutherford College, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024, surrounded by her family, at her residence, following a period of declining health.

Carolyn was born on September 7, 1930, in Burke County to the late Norris Ramsey and Mae Landis
Ramsey. She was a longtime member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivey Griffin Jr., two sisters,
Elizabeth Ramsey Cox and Patricia Ramsey Robinson, and sister in-law, Peggy Griffin.

Carolyn graduated from Morganton High School in 1948. She and Ivey were supposed to be attending
the Shrine Bowl in Charlotte, but because he was home from the Navy they eloped to Gaffney, South
Carolina and were married on December 4, 1948. They were married for 72 years.

She was very much a home body, but Ivey was always on the go. And of course, when he said go she was ready. Although she loved being at home, she also enjoyed traveling, whether it was in their motor home across the United States, ocean cruises or international travel throughout the world.
Until their health began failing, a highlight of the year was wintering in Naples, Florida; where many lifelong friendships were developed. Carolyn enjoyed fishing while visiting their Carolina Beach home, except for baiting the hook and removing the fish from the hook.

Carolyn was a kind and sweet lady. She felt, if you couldn’t say anything good about a person or situation, just don’t say anything.

Surviving are her three children: Dr. Teresa Griffin of Cleveland, Ohio and Dandridge, TN, G. Alan Griffin and wife Lu of Valdese and Lisa Ivy Griffin of Nebo. Also surviving are her two grandchildren, that brought her much joy, Dr. Sarah Griffin of Winston Salem, and Ivey Griffin, II and wife Morgan of Raleigh, one sister, Joyce Ramsey Mahaffee of Valdese, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is extremely grateful for caregivers; Caroline, Julie, Kay, Amy, Michelle, Pat and many others that provided such excellent care.

A Cryptside Service for the family will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 in the Burke Memorial
Park Mausoleum Chapel, with the Rev. April Abernethy officiating.

Memorials may be made to Abernethy Memorial Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Rutherford College, NC 28671 or to Amorem formerly Hospice of Burke County, 1715 Enon Road , Valdese, NC 28690
