Alvin R. Lail, 97, of Valdese, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Trinity Ridge following a period of declining health.

Alvin was born July 30, 1925 in Burke County to the late Frank J. Lail and Fannie Stamey Lail. He was a lifelong member of Abees Chapel Baptist Church. Alvin loved working in his garden, farming, and selling his vegetables.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Lillie Lowman and Ruby Franklin.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Thelma Huffman Lail; children, Eddie Lail and wife Joy, and Loretta Brittain and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Angela “Angie” Ward and husband Kirk, Heather Lairson and husband Dean, Rhonda Hollifield and husband Andy, and Travis Lail and wife, Moira; and eight great-grandchildren, Dylan Ward, Macy Ward, Caraline Laffler, Drew Hollifield, Landon Hollifield, Harper Hollifield, Rory Lail, and Lousie Lail.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Abee’s Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Land officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Abee’s Chapel Baptist Church.
