Mr. Alva Lee Smith, 87 of Valdese passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023 following a period of declining health.
Alva was born December 16, 1935 in Pike County, Mississippi to the late Johnnie Benton Smith and Maybelle Jones Smith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Pruitt Smith; a daughter, Janet Cooke; siblings, Betty Jean Payne, Pauline Craig, Sue Faye Evans, Linda Gale, J.B. Smith and Ralph Smith; and two great-granddaughters, Rylan Helene Huffman and Nellie Abee.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Pam and Mike Pennell, James Smith, Todd and Paula Smith; eleven grandchildren, Shane Brown, Adam Brown, Krystal Smith, Brittany Huffman, Tiffany Wilson, Haley Beck, Molly Stitt, Madison Smith, Ashley Smith, Nikki Smith, Whitney Smith, Derek Brown, Amber Brown, and Stephanie Brown; great-grandchildren, Noah Brown, Alyssa Brown, Colby Brown, Kaleb Brown, Parker Brown, Jaxon Brown, Brigman Brown, Jacob Smith, Alexis Smith, Camdyn Abee, Everleigh Beck, Crew Beck, Easton Stitt, Stella Stitt, Sutton Stitt, Gunner Canipe, Saylor Canipe, and Nash Canipe; three great great-grandchildren, Griffin Brown, Luca Brown, and Deagan Abee; sister, Bennie Miller; sisters-in law, Mary Frances Parton and Ruth Payne; nieces and nephews, Randy Craig, John Smith, Becky Smith, Cindy and Peter Smith, and Roger Payne.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 17, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Drexel Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Lonnie Brown and Pastor Robert Ashe.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 17, 2023 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the church.
Interment will follow at Trinity Baptist Church.
